 Resorts vs. Hotels

When you vacation, don't settle for a typical hotel room with just a bed and bathroom.  Instead, vacation in a luxury resort for much less.  These resorts are designed for their upper class owners, to vacation for weeks at a time.  Staying in a Resort property is much more than staying in a simple hotel room, it's like your home away from home – it's not a room, it's a home!

Benefits of a Resort
Luxury Resorts are not open to the general public.  Normally, they can only be utilized by their owners.  These fabulous resorts are located in the world's most desired vacation destinations and owned by people that can afford a 2nd home.  Some of the benefits of a luxury resort include:

  • Spacious areas designed for an extended stay
  • More in-room amenities than a Hotel
  • Sized for a family with multiple bedrooms
  • Cost for a week stay is less than a week in a hotel

Unlike hotels, which are merely a room with a bed and bathroom, luxury resorts are fully equipped condos with options such as 1-3 bedrooms, 1-3 bathrooms, family rooms, kitchens, hot tubs, laundry facilities, and much more. However, our weekly rates are actually far less expensive than most budget hotels!

A standard hotel is designed as a place where you just stay the night.  Resorts are designed for fun and relaxation with on-site or nearby amenities such as:

  • Swimming Pool
  • Tennis Court
  • Golf Course
  • Exercise Rooms
  • Beaches
  • Ski Slopes
  • Spa Services
  • Lakes and Boating

With our network of over 5,000 luxury resorts, we can get you on the vacation you want. Experience the great beaches of the world with your family or find a romantic drive to vacation near your home or in the mountains. Our vacation properties can accommodate all your needs.

Typical Resort Ownership
Depending on the location, most owners have paid anywhere from $15,000 - $180,000 to own one timeshare.  Full Resort ownership can cost millions of dollars.  Resort owners are responsible to pay annual maintenance fees to cover the cost of property taxes, insurance, maintenance, special assessments, and unit remodeling.  These annual fees can be thousands of dollars each year.

Ownership vs. SmartShare
Ownership is extremely expensive, membership with SmartShare is not.  Timeshare owners have restricted vacationing dates, while SmartShare members can vacation 52 weeks a year.  An owner will pay for their week whether they vacation or not, SmartShare Members only pay for what they use.  SmartShare members can utilize our network of 5,000 resorts to vacation around the world while owners do not enjoy that same flexibility.

Resort vs. Hotel
A typical hotel stay in a resort location will cost you $150-$300 per night (taxes not included).  For a 7 night stay, the cost to stay in a hotel would be $1,050 - $2,100.  A 7 night stay in one of our Luxury Resorts averages $299 – $430. However, Smartshare provides these prices for 2-3 bedroom units whereas a hotel would require you purchasig an additional room raising your costs to $2,100 - $4,200.

Hotels will always add taxes on to their quoted prices, however, all SmartShare weeks are priced to include taxes.  Typical hotel taxes range from 6-14%.  These taxes could add an additional $300 to the cost of your vacation.

When comparing cost, also look at the savings that you get by having all the amenities of home.  In addition to a 1-3 bedroom resort, you have a fully equipped kitchen.  With this, you can save a substantial amount on the cost of dining out by having the convenience of making your meals instead of ordering room service or eating out.

For a family of 4, the following table shows a cost comparison between a weeks stay in either a SmartShare resort or a nice hotel.

  Resort Week Hotel Week
7 Day Rental $299 - $430 $1,050 - $2,100
Taxes $0 $65 - $300
Dining Out / Room Service Optional $600
Groceries / Private family meals $300 Not Available
Total $599 – $999 $1,715 – $3,000

Looking at the above cost comparison, you would save $900 to $3,000 when staying a week in a luxury Resort over a hotel.

Resort Locations
Unlike hotels that mostly cater to business travelers and are located in business areas, Luxury Resorts cater to Vacationers and are located in the prime vacation spots.  You will find luxury resorts in vacation destinations such as Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe and other domestic and international locations.  These destinations are perfect for resorts due to their thriving warm weather and sandy beaches.  You will not find many vacation resorts in business or industrial areas, because most people don’t vacation there.

Family Resort vacation
A typical family of 5 has needs that most hotels are not equipped to handle.  Do you want to try and squeeze into a hotel room, book 2 hotel rooms, or would you rather have a home away from home?  The accommodations found in resorts include multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and other amenities designed help a family ease into the fun and relaxation that they are looking for in a quality vacation.  Vacationing is a perfect way to create memories that last a lifetime.  Remember that 95% of your life's memories come from only 5% of your life's experiences – what are your memories going to be?
